The Philadelphia Ad Club, a non-profit organization, is one of the region’s largest and most active trade associations. It represents the media, marketing and ad tech industry in the greater Philadelphia market, including creative, media and digital agencies, public relations firms, specialty agencies, broadcast and print Media, and more.

The membership of the Club is a community of influential professionals who come together for rich cross-pollination of ideas and to experience effective networking opportunities, actionable diversity & inclusion and professional development education, to improve and promote high standards in the advertising industry. Through the Club, the membership actively mentors young people within the Philadelphia community, through the school system and other public service initiatives.

This is an important moment for the community of marketing, advertising and communications professionals in Philadelphia. We are an industry amid ongoing and rapid change, as each segment looks to position itself to identify opportunities and anticipate challenges to continued growth. 

Appropriately, the Philadelphia Ad Club is in the process of its own reimagining and rebuilding to ensure that it will continue to be a driving and uniting force for its community throughout these heady times. It is within this confluence of serving the existing greater Philadelphia ad community within a time of change and opportunity that the Club is seeking an Executive Director.  The Executive Director will engage with the Executive Committee to the Board and the Operating Board of Directors to develop a strategic path for navigation towards renewed and continued success.

In this role the chosen candidate will work effectively with internal and external stakeholders on the day-to-day management of the Philadelphia Ad Club.  This is a highly strategic and facilitative role that requires a combination of focus and flexibility, as well as a willingness to go beyond existing paradigms to identify creative approaches to key Club concerns, including: membership, programming and events, fundraising and community building. 

This role requires high emotional intelligence, self-motivation, collaboration and attention to detail.  Experience in working with multiple constituencies and the ability to encourage and achieve consensus is critical.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Executive Committee to develop strategic plan for Philadelphia Ad Club, including programming, membership and sponsorship
  • Working with key members of the Board of Directors, outline a path to achieve growth in membership, sponsorship and revenue
  • Develop and manage an ongoing cadence of communications to the membership and sponsors
    • Communications can include, but not be limited to, newsletters, sales and marketing materials, contracts and agreements, email and other written correspondence, social media
  • Define, create and execute and effective portfolio of programming in line with the memberships’ interests
  • Serve as the initial, and key point of contact for sponsor and partner communication
  • Develop and sustain relationships with leadership of agencies, media companies, technology providers, and clients within the Philadelphia market
  • Develop and sustain relationships with leadership of industry organizations within and external to the Philadelphia market
  • Manage the financial resources of the PAC to achieve profitability; identify challenges and opportunities to profitability and create solutions towards that end

Requirements/Technical Expertise

  • 15+ years of related work experience in media/marketing/tech industry communications, company management, brand marketing
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience in non-profit/foundation work strongly desirable
  • Experience in working with boards of directors
  • Understanding of by-laws and other procedural elements of working with boards of directors
  • Demonstrated experience in financial rigor, including managing multi-faceted P/L
  • Passionate and knowledgeable about the media/marketing/tech industry as well as the Philadelphia Ad Club mission and its role in the marketplace
  • Experience working with multiple constituents in a consensus role
  • Must have the ability to quickly determine and prioritize opportunities and challenges, and identify approaches for action
  • Detail oriented with excellent project management skills, ability to handle multiple projects and tasks, often in a fast-paced environment
  • Team player with strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, polishes presentation skills
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, Mailchimp, social media platforms

Personal Qualities/Other Attributes

  • Excellent people skills, particularly partnership and relationship building with both internal (Board/Executive Committee) and external (membership/sponsorship/other partners) stakeholders
  • Self-starter with a high level of creative initiative
