Louisiana State University invites applications for the position of the Dean of the Manship School of Mass Communication. The Dean reports directly to the Executive Vice President and Provost and serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the college. The Dean provides ultimate administrative oversight for all aspects of academic life within the college, including strategic planning, fiscal management, personnel development, academic programs, research enterprises and student enrollment. The Dean will formulate and administer policies for the College, either on their own initiative or as directed by appropriate authority, with due consideration for the prerogatives of the faculty with regard to educational policy. The Dean also has primary responsibilities for external initiatives that include community outreach and development.

The Manship School offers undergraduate education in Journalism, Public Relations, Digital Advertising, and Political Communication as well as the only graduate program in the U.S. in media and public affairs. The School oversees the innovative Reilly Center for Media & Public Affairs, the Media and Diversity Forum, three state of-the-art research labs, and student media. With a combined endowment of $34 million, the School currently has a total of 33 full-time faculty and 15 full-time staff positions, along with over 1,000 undergraduate majors and 65 Masters and Ph.D. students. The School is accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (ACEJMC) and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). Applicants and nominees must hold a degree in one of the School’s fields of study or a related field, or commensurate experience in a related professional field, and academic or professional credentials appropriate for appointment at the rank of full professor with tenure, including a sustained and outstanding record of scholarly publication or comparable professional achievement. The successful candidate will have leadership experience in higher education with a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion as well as a commitment to educational quality and scholarly excellence, a record of working with others collaboratively, a record of capitalizing on emerging opportunities, and commitments to putting students first, to collegiality, and to shared governance.
