My Letter To My Freshman Self

By Tarahgee Morris

Here is my letter to Freshman Tarahgee:

Dear Tarahgee,

Congratulations! You just graduated cum laude from Temple University with a Bachelors of Arts in Advertising. You didn’t make it yet but you sure as hell took the leap.

You did a lot the past four years. You switched your major 4 times, moved to 9 different places, tore your achilles, lost your mom, & spent your last semester on zoom.

Again, you did a lot in the past 4 years. You organized and hosted a TEDx event, went to South Africa, won many awards, met amazing friends, did MAIP, taught high schoolers about creativity, interned at Ogilvy twice, sat on many D&I committees, got accepted into the 1st One School class, & graduated with your last semester being in a racially divided pandemic.

It was arduous. It was so damn hard but you still did it. You gave future Black kids another example of what it means to be the 1st Black male in your family to graduate from a university doing something he loves: creative inspiration.

You learned that the who, what, where, when, and how will change. Now the why is the reason you will keep pushing.

Congrats kid. The world is waiting to see what you will do. Do it your way.

Sincerely,
Tarahgee Morris | 2020 Temple University graduate
