Bank Branches-to-Market, Revitalizing Viagra, and Over One Billion in Lean Cuisine Sales are Among the Brand-Building Accomplishments

Tierney Communications announced the hiring of a new Director of Strategic Planning as well as two new Account Directors and a Media Supervisor, according to Tierney President and CEO Mary Stengel Austen.

“The combined experience of our team in brand building across industries has never been stronger,” Austen said. “We are delighted to be able to bring our longstanding clients an infusion of new ideas and strategies as well as offer new clients the best talent they could find anywhere,” she added. “Our ability to attract such a strong group of practitioners reflects a vote of confidence in the calibre of work being done at the Agency.”

Joel Constantz has been named Senior Vice President, Director of Strategic Planning and Research. With more than 20 years’ experience in national consumer and business-to-business campaigns, Constantz comes to Tierney from Richmond, Virginia, where he served as Managing Partner and Planning Director for WORK, Inc. In this role, he created a best-practice brand planning approach that generated business-building ideas for clients including Capital One, Virginia Tourism, Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, SuperValu, AES, Super 8 Motels, Wingate Inns and the Virginia Tobacco Settlement Foundation’s youth anti-smoking campaign.

Constantz also served in executive roles at Fitzgerald & Company of Atlanta; The Martin Agency in Richmond; and NW Ayer in Chicago, building brands including Wrangler, Deere & Company (lawn and garden equipment), Sheraton Hotels, Johnson and Evinrude Outboard Motors, Bank One, and Honeywell-Microswitch.

At Tierney, his role will be to lead the research and planning function in the client-agency team. With every new assignment, his objective is to create consumer-informed marketing scenarios, new brand visions and new communications paradigms to help the team produce additional top line growth for Tierney clients.

Barbara J. Manning has been named Media Supervisor at Tierney Communications, where she works on accounts including Bayer Environmental Science, PECO, and WPVI-TV. She comes to Tierney from New York, where she took on increasingly challenging Media Planning roles at Deutsch Advertising, Devito Verdi Advertising, and most recently, ZenithOptimedia, as Communications Planning Supervisor.

Manning began her career in Philadelphia at Dorland Sweeney Jones Health Communications as a Public Relations Assistant Account Executive. She then moved to New York and made a switch to Broadcast Business Management for clients including IKEA, Lenscrafters, Pfizer, and Domino’s Pizza. As a media planner, she served a diverse client base including Revlon, Bank One, MCI, Tommy Hilfiger, Snapple, AOL, Hotwire.com, Jackson Hewitt, and Nestle brands. Her efforts contributed to Nestle’s Lean Cuisine topping one billion in sales.

Shannon Reynolds and Joshua Torrisi were named Account Directors.
Shannon Reynolds created and led the Promotional Division at Princeton Partners Inc. prior to joining the Tierney Team to work on accounts including Commerce Bank and Boiron’s Oscillococcinum homeopathic flu remedy. Career highlights include developing the PNC Bank New Branch go-to-market strategy, helping the bank to launch over 100 new bank branches in eight states.
At Noble & Associates in Springfield, Missouri, Reynolds led the Tyson National Account Group providing promotional sales and marketing solutions for QSR, Fast Casual and Casual Dinning segments. She has also worked with brands such as McNeil Consumer & Specialty Pharmaceutical, New York City Health & Hospital System, ConAgra Foods, Sweet Streets Deserts, Dole and Mrs. Dash.
Joshua Torrisi comes to Tierney from the Human Care division of McCann Erickson in New York, where he worked on direct-to-consumer advertising for the Pfizer Viagra account. He launched the “Viva!” ad campaign for Viagra including concept testing and negotiating rights to the song, “Viva Las Vegas.”

As an Account Executive at Euro RSCG MVBMS Partners, Torrisi coordinated global print and television campaigns for Intel’s Centrino Mobile Technology and worked on production of its corporate affairs campaign. At Bates USA, he worked on campaigns for Bristol-Myers Squibb’s Glucovance; TAP Pharmaceuticals’ Prevacid; and a pro-bono effort for the Advertising Council called “Operation Graduation” to encourage high school students to stay in school.

At Tierney, Torrisi will serve as the Account Director on the PECO and Independence Blue Cross accounts.
