Lenfest Broadcasting LLC has named accomplished television programming executive Jon Gorchow its president.
Gorchow, who spent nearly two decades in significant programming roles at Comcast, will lead the efforts of WMCN TV to acquire and develop original programming. WMCN is Lenfest Broadcasting’s independent television station. WMCN, which is available to Comcast, Verizon FiOS, DIRECTV, and The Dish Network customers, reaches more than 2.6 million households throughout southeastern Pennsylvania, central and southern New Jersey, and Delaware.
“We could not be more pleased to have Jon on our team,” said Chase Lenfest, the owner of Lenfest Broadcasting. “His creativity and programming expertise will be invaluable as WMCN enhances its offerings to viewers.”
WMCN, also known as Get It On TV Philly, currently airs direct response programming. Earlier this month, the station announced an exclusive local deal to carry six Philadelphia Soul games as a first step toward growing its original programming. WMCN will continue to air direct response shows as it diversifies its lineup.
“WMCN’s viewers can expect to see more and more high-profile, high-quality programming,” Gorchow said. “We intend to take advantage of the tremendous opportunity we have to reach nearly 3 million households.”
WMCN is considering sports, entertainment, business and news programming as additions to its lineup, Gorchow said.
Gorchow joined Comcast in 1989 and held various marketing and programming leadership positions concluding with his role as vice president of the Comcast Programming Group in 2009. While at Comcast, Gorchow managed CN8, The Comcast Network through a series of expansions. He led the creation of 90 hours per week of live, original programming and developed the “Comcast Originals” series, which featured nationally-known musicians, athletes and artists. During his tenure, CN8 was honored with more than 70 regional Emmy Awards from 2001-2007.
Gorchow has an extensive marketing background as well. From 1989 to 1997, he served as vice president of marketing and sales for Comcast’s cable division, exceeding subscriber and revenue targets each year. Gorchow left Comcast in 2010 to become the general manager of the Washington Kastles of World Team Tennis, a position which he held until joining Lenfest Broadcasting LLC.
