Art Director’s Club of Philadelphia gets a face-lift

The Art Director’s Club of Philadelphia recently re-launched after renovating itself to include the expanding world of creative professionals. As the second-oldest advertising club in the United States, ADCP unites these professionals and creates networking opportunities that span across multiple careers within the community.
“Now, it’s not just about art directors in the advertising world,” Ginger Kochmer, president of ADCP, said. “Creativity is in so many different careers. Connection is really what we are about, making us more of an ‘active dynamic of creative professionals,’ than just advertising people.”

ADCP started as a branch of the New York Art Director’s Club over 80 years ago. After breaking away from the New York Club in 1934, it became a vital part of Philadelphia business in the 1960s. During this time, Philadelphia was seen as an advertising “hot spot” causing membership to flourish. After interest slowly began to decline from the 1980s into the new millennium, Kochmer decided it was important to bring the club back to its full glory.

Kochmer’s team worked to create an experience that would fulfill the needs of all creative professionals and provide networking throughout many career fields in the creative industry. With a current membership comprised of 150 agency professionals, freelancers and students, Kochmer wanted these events to be fun and centered on a sense of community. Events include:
• The Nomad Series - an opportunity for members to visit various agencies within the club to meet professionals from that agency
• Various speaker series - different professionals in the region discussing different topics they have experience in
• The Vent Event - where professionals share their stories about working in the industry
• Battle of the Bands – competition where work is set aside and everyone shows off their musical talents for a night to win the battle

The Art Director’s Club of Philadelphia (ADCP) was founded in 1924 and is the second-oldest advertising club in the United States. ADCP works to bring together creative professionals in fields such as advertising, copywriting, and graphic design to network through various speaker series, visits to advertising agencies and other socials.
