2012 Mid-Atlantic EMMY® Nominations Announced

In simultaneous announcement parties that took place in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Harrisburg, officials from the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) announced the 2012 Mid-Atlantic Emmy® Award Nominations. Events were held at Xfinity Live! in South Philadelphia, WQED Multimedia in Pittsburgh, and at The Public Media Center at WITF-TV in Harrisburg. The awards honor excellence in television news, programming and individual achievement in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware.
This year, the Chapter received 659 entries in 76 categories, including 70 Emmy® categories and six college production categories, and 287 entries received nominations. Emmy® judging is completed by regional NATAS Chapters in comparable TV markets across the country. All entries in a given category are judged by TV industry professionals with expertise in that category, and the judges apply personal standards of excellence to evaluate each entry in areas of content, creativity and execution.
“This marks the 30th year for the Mid-Atlantic Emmy® Awards, and we are encouraged to see both strong interest and increased participation among members,” said NATAS Chapter President Brad Nau, of Comcast SportsNet in Philadelphia. “We’re proud to announce a 17 percent increase in the number of entries received by the Mid-Atlantic Chapter this year. The nominations reflect extraordinary talent across the region and will once again recognize up and coming youth as part of the college production categories.”
Regional television professionals will gather to celebrate the 30th Annual Mid-Atlantic Emmy® Awards on Saturday, September 22 at Philadelphia Hilton Hotel located on City Avenue. Festivities will include a cocktail hour and silent auction to benefit NATAS Scholarship programs, a sit-down dinner and the award presentations. NBC News President Steve Capus will receive the prestigious Board of Governors’ Award which is bestowed by NATAS to recognize career longevity, lifetime achievements and significant contributions to the television industry.
